Tempered glass does not crack, it lets go
Side glass is tempered. When it fails it does not split into long shards the way a windshield does, it breaks into small cubes, and a good share of those cubes fall down inside the door. That is why a smashed side window is two jobs: the broken pane, and everything it left behind in the shell.
A regulator failure looks different and sounds different. The cable snaps, the window drops into the door with a thud, or it will not go up at all and you hear the motor spinning without moving anything. The glass may be perfectly good. The part that lifts it is what quit.
The same shop handles back glass and sunroofs, so a rear window that went in a break-in or a sunroof that no longer seals does not need a second phone call to a different company.
